Three years have passed since the siege of Marawi but nothing has improved on the situation of the bakwits. In fact, they are made even more vulnerable as they face the danger of COVID-19.

To-date, more than 100,000 Meranaos remain displaced - in temporary shelters or living with kin, or on their own. Their current living conditions virtually render them unable to take precautions against the pandemic and make them even more prone to the spread of diseases.

We strongly condemn the government's failure to return them safely and with dignity to their homes. We strongly condemn the inhumane inaction of Task Force Bangon Marawi that has pushed the displaced of Marawi to deepening poverty and vulnerability. It is time to axe the leadership of the TFBM for incompetence and make them accountable for the funding that was geared for the normalization of Marawi.

To the people of Marawi, we are one with you. Know that we will continue to support and fight for your right to return to your homes so you can finally rebuild your dreams and aspirations for a better future for yourselves and your children.
